Exhibition of the Pan-European Picnic

On the occasion of the anniversary of Pan-European Picnic we commemorate the historical events from 30 years ago in downtown Sopron with an open-air exhibition.

The common goal of the Pan-European Picnic ‘89 Foundation and the Municipality of Sopron is for the locals, the tourists and the young people arriving at the VOLT Festival to be able to get first-hand information on the former events.

The thematic exhibition of the Sopron Museum basically reveals a border crossing point in 1989: visitors can meet passport-check booths, Trabants, a rebuilt iron curtain section, and an original watchtower. At Rondella, we can see Tamás Lobenwein’s recordings that capture the moments of border breaking, which has become of historical importance.

The colorful exhibition in question is part of a series of programs, lasting for months, of which preparation is now under way. In addition to the permanent exhibition at the Pannonia Hotel, on the already mentioned VOLT Festival there will be a small memorial place for those who want to have fun.
